Socially responsible company
PKO Bank Polski is a socially responsible company, which has espoused the principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR) as at seeks to strike the right balance between its financial effectiveness and income generation, and its desire to contribute to social wellbeing. For that reason, its engaged in activities that serve the communities in which it operates. Every year it undertakes to support projects of both national and local outreach that address varied aspects of social life, including education, sports, culture and the arts, preservation of national heritage, social welfare or health.
As a patron of the arts its sponsors music, theatre and film festivals, and art exhibitions. In the jubilee year of the 1410 Battle of Grunwald it participated in a conservation treatment of the celebrated painting by Jan Matejko depicting the historical battle, on display at the National Museum in Warsaw. PKO Bank Polski contributions enabled procurement of much medical equipment for hospitals and a health care sector foundation.
The Capital Group has gained fresh opportunities for continued social action at formation in 2010 of the PKO Bank Polski Foundation. The foundation's statutory mission is the support of persons and organisations engaged in charitable activities through promotion of employee volunteer programmes and co-funding of projects undertaken within selected areas of social policy programming.
In September 2010, the Bank undertook sponsorship of the Fifth Special Olympics European Summer Game. At the same time it conducted the Nationwide Honorary Blood Donation Appeal, which was a major success, with nearly 600 persons donating in total close to 270 litres of blood. The Bank also organised aid for persons affected by flush floods. This included collections of cash and material aid for the Bank's employees who were flood victims, summer holiday vacations for 40 children from the inundated Słubice community, and participation in the cleanup and maintenance works in the Elementary Public School in in Świniary.
For a number of years PKO Bank Polski has organised Integration Meetings with St Nicolas, which bring together children being brought up in state orphanages, young charges of the Polish Red Cross, various foundations, social welfare houses and the Children's Friends Society, and children of employees of the Bank aged 4 to 13. In 2010 alone over 7,000 children enjoyed themselves at these gatherings held in 26 Polish cities.
Right before the 2010 Christmas season the PKO Bank Polski Foundation organised a charity drive for collection of books for the inhabitants of educational care facilities.
The Bank engaged in as many as 10,000 individual social responsibility and action projects in the year 2010.
