More than an honour, being the largest financial sector entity and one of the biggest employers in Poland is a responsibility. Aware of the multifaceted impact it has on the environment in which it does business, the Bank is committed to sustainable development as it responds to the diverse needs of its employees and its market, the society and the natural environment.
PKO Bank Polski has accompanied Poles in their everyday lives, providing its support at times important personal and financial decisions had to be taken. From its inception it has participated in the country’s major investment projects contributing to its progress and welfare: from the construction of the Gdynia city and port to the present-day delivery of financial solutions that enable companies and regions to pursue their ambitious development plans. The Bank is also one of the largest employers in Poland; having taken responsibility for vocational development of over 28,000 persons and prosperity of their families.
From its earliest years naturally engaged with its social environment, the Bank embraced the philosophy of corporate social responsibility long before it ever became one of the key paradigms of the modern practice of business. This is why ethical behaviour, fairness, co-operation, trust and respect for all the stakeholders form the core of its operational model, and why founding of own philanthropic institution was one of the key tasks of the 2010-2012 operational strategy.
The Bank’s activities are perceived and widely appreciated. In 2013 PKO Bank Polski became the recipient of the Economic Award of the President of Poland (commonly referred to as the Polish Nobel Prize in Economy) for its observance of the principles of corporate governance and its activities in the field of corporate social responsibility.
The Bank was the only laureate to receive nominations in two categories. The Competition’s judging panel granted us distinctions in the categories of Corporate Governance and Corporate Social Responsibility (a distinction the Bank also received a year earlier) and of Innovation. The nominations and the prize are an act of recognition of PKO Bank Polski’s contribution to the country’s economic development and to the process of building a positive image of the Polish economy.
