Monthly data show that the start of 3q23 was slightly disappointing, however, posing no threat to expected economic rebound.

Sensitivity of labour market to economic conditions has weakened in recent years, in particular in 2q21-3q22. Limited labour supply was a constraint to post-pandemic employment recovery, while at the same time remains workers’ safety buffer during the downturn. We see, however, that in 4q22-2q23 demand conditions again seemed to have a higher impact on employment.

Monthly economic activity indicators for April-June confirm that GDP in 2q23 declined in y/y terms for the second quarter in a row, amid deepening consumer recession, moderate growth of fixed investment and resilient exports. At the same time, the most recent data for June suggest that the Polish economy has turned the corner and enters a recovery path, to be driven mostly by a rebound in consumption.
Makro Flash: Pozytywne wiadomości inflacyjne
Czerwiec przyniósł kontynuację szybkiego spadku inflacji. Inflacja CPI obniżyła się do 11,5% r/r (zgodnie z szybkim szacunkiem GUS) z 13,0% r/r w maju, co oznacza, że w porównaniu do szczytu z lutego obniżyła się już o 6,9pp. W czerwcu do spadku inflacji przyczyniły się wszystkie główne kategorie. Do szybkiej dezinflacji towarowej stopniowo dołącza dezinflacja po stronie usług. Czerwiec był drugim miesiącem z rzędu, kiedy poziom cen nie zmienił się w stosunku do poprzedniego miesiąca.
