Representative Office in Austria - another step in PKO Bank Polski’s international expansion
- PKO Bank Polski has opened a foreign representative office in Vienna.
- The launch of operations in Austria forms part of the implementation of PKO Bank Polski’s Strategy for 2025-2027 in the area of international expansion.
- Austria is the third country, after Lithuania and Sweden, where the Bank operates a foreign representative office. Together with its network of foreign corporate branches, PKO Bank Polski is now present in seven EU countries and, through KredoBank, also in Ukraine.
PKO Bank Polski has opened a foreign representative office in Austria. It is the Bank’s seventh foreign unit operating within the European Union. By expanding its international network, the Bank supports Polish companies operating in new markets and consistently strengthens its position, striving to become the most recognisable and active Polish bank in Europe.
- The development of the network of foreign representative offices and corporate branches is a response to the needs of Polish enterprises that are steadily expanding their presence in international markets. It also represents the implementation of a key element of PKO Bank Polski’s Strategy for 2025-2027. Over the course of its implementation, we intend to expand our international network to twelve units supporting our operations across EU countries - says Marek Radzikowski, Vice President of the Management Board of PKO Bank Polski.
Third Foreign Representative Office
The representative office in Austria aims, among other things, to promote PKO Bank Polski’s offering and establish initial relationships with potential corporate clients. The office will also conduct market analyses to assess business potential. Where justified, PKO Bank Polski will consider transforming the representative office into a foreign corporate branch.
The Vienna representative office is headed by Hiddo van Voorst tot Voorst. He brings to PKO Bank Polski over 30 years of experience gained at global financial institutions, as well as extensive expertise in the Austrian, German, Swiss and Benelux markets. Prior to joining PKO Bank Polski, he worked for leading international banks in Vienna, London and Amsterdam.
In parallel with the process that has recently led to the successful opening of three foreign representative offices, intensive work is underway to launch four additional foreign corporate branches. In line with the adopted plans, they are expected to commence operations before the end of 2027.
Broad Offering and Systematic Growth
PKO Bank Polski’s first corporate branch commenced operations in Germany in December 2015. Since then, the Bank has been systematically expanding its international network. In subsequent years, it opened corporate branches in the Czech Republic (2017) and Slovakia (2021). Last year, following the launch of a branch in Romania and subsequently representative offices in Sweden and Lithuania, the Bank doubled the number of markets in which it operates. The Bank’s Capital Group is also present in Ukraine through KredoBank - a systemically important bank headquartered in Lviv, with an extensive network of branches across the country.
PKO Bank Polski also focuses on the development of correspondent banking and international settlement services. It currently settles transactions with more than 1,300 institutions in 23 currencies and maintains 240 accounts for banks from Europe, the Americas, Asia, Australia and Africa, accounting for 50% of the interbank market in Poland.
